Latinamerikansk barok

Musikken til Sangbogen fra Eldorado er hentet fra 17 og 1800-tals kilder i Spanien og Latinamerika. Genren er barok, men en ganske særlig slags type barok musik. De iørefaldende og livlige satser er i højere grad baseret på datidens populære viser og sange, og henter ofte rytmen i danse med folkeligt udspring som sarabanda, bolero og fandango.

Også dele af instrumentariet er usædvanligt; Udover mere almindelige continuo-instrumenter som harpe, gambe, violin, barokguitar og cembalo, findes her “eksotiske” guitarvarianter”, organetto, keenanfløjte, mundgige, kastagnetter og andet slagtøj. Vi har valgt, med inspiration i mexicansk arkitektur, at kalde genren for folkebarok.

En visuel koncert

Men ikke kun lydbilledet er fascinerende. Hvor pladsforhold tillader det, tilbydes koncerten også i en version, hvor den rytmisk iørefaldende barokmusik akkompagneres af tidlig flamencodans. (fra sommer 2014)
Koncerten er bygget op som en dramatisk enhed hvor fortællinger og lyrik fra spanske og latinamerikanske barokdigtere indrammer den smukke og temperamentsfulde musik, der er både folkelig og sofistikeret i sit væsen.
Koncerten tilbydes som en kirke- eller kammermusikkoncert med 5 eller 6 medvirkende musikere, eller - hvor plads og økonomi tillader det - i en større ensembleudgave med en udbygget continuogruppe, 
Koncerten kræver ikke specielle tekniske installationer eller sceneplads.
